Oxygen Capsules: Share Your Lung History

Hello, I’m Dr. Kim Kyung-soo, director of UHCELL Clinic Seocho.
An oxygen capsule can look like a place simply to lie down and rest. That doesn’t make an old lung condition irrelevant. Report pneumothorax or chest surgery before booking, even on a day when breathing feels normal. I check respiratory history before discussing session length, rather than skipping assessment or increasing oxygen supply because someone feels tired.
The equipment name is not a treatment specification
Conditions differ.
Pressure, oxygen delivery, authorized purpose and operating requirements vary by device. Findings from medical hyperbaric oxygen treatment for a particular disease cannot be applied to every oxygen capsule. This article does not guess the pressure or oxygen concentration of our equipment.
Suitability needs the actual manufacturer’s instructions and your current health status. Longer sessions or higher pressure are not automatically better.
Report pneumothorax, lung disease and chest surgery
History comes first.
Pneumothorax means air has collected between the lung and chest wall. Untreated pneumothorax is a contraindication to hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Tell us about previous treatment for it, or lung disease such as emphysema, even without current symptoms.
Include the timing and outcome of chest surgery or lung procedures, inhalers and home oxygen therapy. A surgical history does not make everyone ineligible. If the old diagnosis is unclear, I prefer checking whether the treating clinician needs to assess it, not assuming all is well.
Prepare four pieces of information
A short note is enough.
List the diagnosis, treatment or operation date, current symptoms, and medicines or inhalers. Records or a prescription can help when names are uncertain. Don’t delay urgent care to gather paperwork.
Mention a recent cold, fever, cough or unusual breathlessness separately. Don’t stop prescribed inhalers or add medicine to hide symptoms for a session. If chest pain or difficulty breathing occurs during use, tell staff immediately rather than enduring it. Follow their instructions about stopping and obtaining medical care.
Sudden chest pain or breathlessness needs care first
Seek medical care first.
Don’t try to treat sudden chest pain or severe breathlessness by booking a capsule. Severe symptoms need urgent assessment through emergency care or 119 in Korea. A capsule does not replace emergency oxygen or diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease.
Repeated breathlessness or chest pain needs its cause checked, even if it feels like ordinary fatigue. Postponement or other medical care may be necessary; individual responses also vary.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Should I mention a pneumothorax treated years ago?
Yes. Share when and how it was treated, whether it recurred, and have your current situation assessed.
Does any lung disease rule out use?
It depends on the condition, your current health and the equipment. Some lung diseases need special caution, so disclose them first.
Should I book a capsule when I feel breathless?
Have the cause medically assessed first. Sudden or severe breathlessness or chest pain needs emergency evaluation, not a capsule session.
Before an oxygen-capsule consultation at UHCELL Clinic Seocho, share your lung, pneumothorax and chest-surgery history. Suitability depends on the actual equipment and your health. The photograph shows the oxygen-capsule room at our clinic.
