Can You Take Your Phone into an Oxygen Capsule?

Hello, I’m Dr. Kim Kyung-soo, director of UHCELL Clinic Seocho.

Can you watch videos on your phone inside an oxygen capsule or keep your smartwatch on? Everyday belongings still need a check before use.

I don’t treat the belongings check as simple tidying. It is part of reviewing the device’s conditions alongside medical equipment and care that you need.

The name alone does not determine the rules

Devices called oxygen capsules may differ in design, pressure and oxygen delivery. Something permitted at another facility is not automatically permitted in this device.

Fire prevention matters in high-oxygen environments. Electrical items, static-related risks and clothing need review. However, an online list should not be treated as the confirmed instructions for our particular device.

I check the purpose of use and your current health, then explain preparation using the manufacturer’s instructions and staff guidance. The effects or conditions of a different medical hyperbaric system cannot simply be transferred to every capsule.

Show phones, watches and batteries to staff first

Mention phones, smartwatches, wireless earbuds and power banks before entering. Small items count too. Lighters, matches and other ignition sources also need to be addressed beforehand.

Turning an item off or using airplane mode does not establish that it may enter. Restrictions differ between devices, so don’t decide to take it in before staff have checked.

Tell us at booking if you use a hearing aid, insulin pump or other device needed for daily life or treatment. Being on a checklist does not mean removing it or stopping treatment yourself. Discuss whether use can proceed while maintaining the functions you need.

Products on your skin and hair also need review

Perfume, hairspray, oils, cosmetics and ointments are separate from the items in your bag. Tell staff their names and where you applied them so preparation can be checked.

Rules about oil-based products and clothing materials follow the device instructions. Don’t assume all products are identical or scrub your skin at home trying to remove them. Ask about preparation before your visit.

Prescribed ointments, wound dressings and medicine patches are particularly important to mention. Don’t remove them or stop prescribed care yourself. The care you need and the device requirements must be considered together.

Know how to contact staff before starting

Understand what clothing to change into, what must stay outside and how to call staff from inside. If an instruction is unclear, ask again before the door closes.

Report ear pain, difficulty breathing, sudden anxiety, unusual warmth or an unusual smell immediately. Don’t try to endure it, open the door yourself or change equipment settings. Follow staff instructions.

Checking belongings does not remove every risk, and an oxygen capsule is not appropriate for every cause of fatigue. I check the purpose and your response during use. Colds, fever, medical conditions and medication changes are important advance information too.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I bring my phone if it is switched off?

Switching it off and being allowed to bring it in are different things. Show phones, smartwatches and battery-powered items to staff and follow the instructions for that device.

Should I remove prescribed ointment or a medicine patch first?

Don’t stop or remove prescribed care yourself. Tell the team the product and location before your appointment and ask how to prepare while maintaining the care you need.

What if my ears hurt or I feel short of breath inside?

Tell staff immediately. Learn how to contact them before starting. Don’t endure symptoms or operate the door or pressure settings yourself; follow staff guidance about whether to continue.

Before planning an oxygen capsule session, list your medications, attached devices and products you use. UHCELL Clinic Seocho can discuss suitability and preparation with you.
