Dr. Kim Kyung-soo at UHCELL Clinic Seocho branch explains how horizontal lines, loose skin, dryness and posture are assessed separately. | 슬러그:neck-wrinkles-cause-check-seocho | 태그: -->

Hello, I’m Dr. Kim Kyung-soo, Medical Director of UHCELL Clinic Seocho branch.

Toward the end of a facial consultation, many people point to their neck and ask, “Is there nothing for this?”

There is.

But neck lines don’t come from a single cause. The same horizontal line can form because skin has thinned, or because loose skin is folding. The approach differs. So I separate the cause before talking about any treatment name.

Why do neck lines show earlier than facial lines?

The neck works under tougher conditions than the face.

Skin thickness — the skin on the front of the neck is thinner than on the face, so small changes show up as lines

Movement — looking down and up again repeats countless times a day

Care — people moisturize the face carefully but often skip the neck

On top of that, UV exposure accumulated over summer reduces collagen in the dermis.

So at the change of season, neck lines can feel as though they deepened suddenly. More often, lines that were already there have become sharper as dryness overlaps with them.

The same line, four different causes

In consultation I separate neck lines like this.

Fine lines made visible by dryness — they soften after moisturizing, and the surface looks crepey

Horizontal lines folded by habit — a line forms in the same place when you look down

Deeper lines from lost firmness — the line stays even when you lift your chin, and the skin under the jaw drops with it

Laxity at the neck border — the boundary between jawline and neck blurs, so lines appear to overlap

They look alike.

But start a firming treatment on type 1 and the difference is small. Use only moisturizer on type 3 and it lasts a moment. Get the order wrong and only the cost and recovery time grow.

What you can check at home first

Before you come in, check twice in front of a mirror.

Once facing forward, once with your chin slightly raised.

If the line nearly disappears when you lift your chin, folding or dryness carries more weight. If the line stays, firmness needs to be assessed too.

Compare before and after moisturizing as well. If the line softens noticeably a few minutes after applying moisturizer, dryness plays a large part.

Checking just these two things makes the consultation far more specific.

What to sort out before your consultation

To use a short consultation precisely, it helps to organize the following.

When neck lines bother you most (front-facing photos, looking down, profile)

Whether you use moisturizer or sunscreen on your neck

Any treatments you’ve had on the neck or under the jaw

Any important event coming up where your neck will be visible

I ask about the third one especially.

Previous treatment under the jaw changes how we read the neck border. And there’s something I want to state plainly: neck lines aren’t erased in one session. The aim is to settle them so they read as less noticeable.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Will neck lines improve if I just moisturize well?

Fine lines made visible by dryness can change with moisturizing. Deeper lines from lost firmness have limits with moisturizer alone, so separating the cause comes first.

Are neck lines treated with laser or radiofrequency too?

The method depends on the cause and skin thickness. Neck skin is thinner than facial skin, so we don’t simply apply the same approach; we confirm the area and condition during the consultation first.

Can they disappear in one session?

Neck lines are closer to being settled gradually so they read as less noticeable than erased at once. We explain the number of sessions and intervals after assessing your condition.

There’s more than one reason neck lines look deeper. Only after separating whether it’s dryness, a habitual fold, or lost firmness does the care you need become clear.

When you prepare for a consultation, please tell us the angle that bothers you along with any previous treatments. At UHCELL Clinic Seocho branch we’ll confirm your current skin condition and explain the order that’s needed.

※ Skin responses and treatment progress vary.
