Dr. Kim Kyung-soo at UHCELL Clinic Seocho explains how to separate swelling, fat, and firmness, and what to prepare before a consultation. | 슬러그:late-summer-jawline-heaviness-lifting-consultation-checklist-seocho | 태그: -->

As summer winds down, I hear this often.
“In photos, my jawline doesn’t look the way it used to.”

Their weight hasn’t changed, yet the lower face looks heavier.
But even with the same complaint, the cause differs from person to person.
Lingering swelling, settled fat, and reduced support each look different.

In a consultation, I separate these three first. Skip that step and the treatment you actually need changes.

First, separate swelling, fat, and firmness

The three can look alike on the surface, but the approach differs.

Swelling: a big gap between morning and evening. It stands out the day after salty food or poor sleep.

Fat: little change through the day. It stays in specific areas regardless of weight.

Loss of firmness: the line looks different lying down versus sitting up.

Checking it isn’t difficult.
For a few days, take photos at the same angle in the morning and in the evening.
A large gap points to swelling; almost no difference means we look toward fat or firmness.

Why the jawline looks different once summer passes

Factors that built up over the summer become visible around now.

Long stretches in air conditioning slow circulation, and swelling can linger instead of settling.
Repeated short-term weight changes matter too. The fat layer stays the same while the skin alone loosens.

Then posture adds to it.
Long hours looking down at a screen blur the border between the chin and the neck.

That’s why, in a jawline consultation, I also look at neck and shoulder posture.
Judging from the face alone means missing part of the picture.

What to confirm before choosing a device

There are many lifting devices.
Still, I don’t start by naming one.

I confirm skin thickness, fat distribution, and the direction of sagging, then decide the range.
Applying too much where there is little fat can make the area look hollow instead.

Conversely, treating only the surface of a double chin where fat makes up much of it makes change hard to notice.
Where and how much you apply matters more than which device you use.

I also don’t recommend doing a great deal at once.
Working in stages while watching how the skin responds tends to be more stable.

What to prepare before your consultation

Many patients come during their lunch break, since we’re near Gyodae Station, so consultations can be short.
Coming in with a few things organized lets us use that time precisely.

Whether it looks heavier in the morning or the evening

Whether your weight has changed over the past six months

Which lifting treatments you’ve had before, and when

Any important occasion coming up

I always ask about the fourth.
Whether you can set aside recovery time changes the approach.
Raising the intensity because a date is close is not something I recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Will a double chin go away if I lose weight?

It can lighten with weight loss in some cases, but skin firmness and the border between the chin and neck may also play a part. Because this varies by person, we confirm your condition before deciding the direction.

How can I tell swelling from fat?

Comparing morning and evening helps. A large gap suggests swelling makes up more of it; if it stays similar all day, we look at fat and firmness as well.

Is it better to have one strong lifting session?

That’s hard to claim. Setting the range according to the area and skin thickness tends to be more stable. We don’t recommend simply raising the intensity.

How much recovery time is needed?

It depends on the method, the range, and your individual condition. If you have an important occasion, let us know in advance and we’ll plan around your schedule.

A heavier-looking jawline rarely comes down to a single cause.
Separating swelling, fat, and firmness makes it clear what needs attention now and what can be watched over time.
At UHCELL Clinic Seocho, we confirm skin thickness, fat distribution, and the direction of sagging, then walk you through the range of care that is actually needed.

※Results and recovery periods vary by individual.
